Hop Studios has been around since 2001, and for nearly all of that time, we’ve worked on Truthdig.com, an independent news website based in Los Angeles. We’ve known Zuade Kaufman, the publisher, for years as she has reached and informed a mighty audience with Truthdig’s impressive and devoted staff of writers and editors.
This year Truthdig has been nominated again* for a Webby in the Websites and Mobile Sites Independent Publishers category! The site is in rarefied air, becoming one of about 250 finalists from among 13,000 submitted websites this year.
Truthdig publishes original, impactful independent journalism and highlights marginalized voices in an effort to effect progressive change. I think we can all agree that in today’s complicated social and political climate, diverse, independent voices are crucially necessary and dangerously underrepresented.
The Webbys are commonly touted as the “Internet’s highest honor.” Nominees can go on to win one or both types of awards — The Webby Award, judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and The Webby People’s Voice Award, given out based on open public voting.
