We are so pleased to announce the launch of the entirely revamped International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) Member Directory!

Access to this searchable directory is a major benefit of becoming an IAGLR member.

Members can manage their own detailed directory profile — contact information, expert status, waterbody and research interests, bio, links, and more. They can also manage their IAGLR membership itself, including online renewal of their annual membership.

New to the re-launched directory is an optional demographics section that allows the association to compile an aggregate view of member demographics. This supports IAGLR’s efforts to build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization.

Most importantly, the IAGLR Member Directory helps to support networking between researchers all over the globe. Participating members can search the directory by name, research interest, location, and more. Members can even build a custom search query. By helping researchers to connect, IAGLR serves to advance science involving the Great Lakes across all fields of inquiry.

Behind the scenes, IAGLR admins and board members have quick access to yearly reports showing membership type, journal subscriptions, geography, research and waterbody interests, and demographics. Admins can track recent profile edits, download records for offline use, and create announcements, all with custom access levels for security and ease of use.

IAGLR was already running their website using ExpressionEngine (EE), a CMS we have long used to build websites with advanced custom functionality.

Using EE itself as a fantastic base, Hop Studios built a custom set of utilities that, among other things, link PayPal’s arcane and quirky subscriptions API with the CartThrob e-commerce solution for ExpressionEngine.

This allows IAGLR members to subscribe and turn off auto-renewing membership subscriptions right from the directory. Our custom utility add-on is packed with bespoke functionality specific to IAGLR’s needs, linking ExpressionEngine, CartThrob, EE Harbor’s Visitor, and PayPal Subscriptions, keeping subscription statuses and member information in sync.

Hop Studios is thrilled to support IAGLR’s members and the association’s efforts. Are you an aquatic researcher or practitioner? Join the IAGLR community to meet other researchers and support large lake science.
