Publish Improve
Current Version: 2.0.1- EE1
-
Installation
- Unzip the folder to a temporary location on your local hard drive.
- Copy the ext.publishimprove.php file to your extensions directory, and the lang.publishimprove.php file to the appropriate language directory in your EE folders on the server.
- Go to Admin -> Utilities -> Extension Manager in your EE control panel.
- Install the add-on.
-
Usage
- Go to Admin -> Utilities -> Extension Manager in your EE control panel.
- Click on Settings for the add-on and choose which modifications you want affecting your site.
-
Updating
If you don’t disable the extension while upgrading, the upgrade probably won’t work properly. - Go to Admin -> Utilities -> Extension Manager in your EE control panel, and select Settings for the add-on.
- We strongly recommend you take a screenshot or record a copy of any existing settings before you do your update. Just in case.
- Disable the add-on (Admin -> Utilities -> Extension Manager).
- Copy the new ext.publishimprove.php file to your extensions directory, and the new lang.publishimprove.php file to the appropriate language directory in your EE folders on the server.
- Go to Admin -> Utilities -> Extension Manager in your EE control panel, and re-enable the add-on.
- Select Settings to be sure your settings are still accurate.
-
Uninstalling
- Go to Admin -> Utilities -> Extension Manager in your EE control panel, and disable the add-on. Your settings will be erased.
- (optional) Remove the files from your server.

Known Issues
- If you preview a new entry, the “Save As a Copy” checkbox goes away. I don’t consider this a huge problem.
- If you press the tab key while your cursor is in the very first characters of the template field, the field is blanked out. Just UNDO to get it back, and don’t press tab there.
- The Live Entry link is a best guess, and doesn’t work at all with Pages – I’m open to suggestions on how to make this work better, but it’s a can of worms.

Credits
Thank you to Mark Huot, who showed me how to make my extension to play well with others. Thank you to Rob Q and Arden, for their suggestions. Thank you to G-B-O for his bug identification. Thank you to Cap_Nemo who discovered that it wasn’t working if you only had one blog (who only has one blog?!) Thank you to Elwin Zuiderveld, whose modules provided inspiration for functionality in this one. If you want a more locked-down solution for removing the Modules or My Account tab, I recommend his extension.
And thanks to the EllisLab folks, without whom, etc., etc., etc.

Final Note
Final note to those using this extension: I update it more often when I hear people are benefiting from it. By all means, drop me a line and tell me what you’d like to see added.

1.7.0 - 2007-07-05

1.6.0 - 2007-06-26
- I have integrated the textarea extension into this extension. (See Copyright)
- Fixed a small publish page bug
- It now cleans out its own old extension hooks from 1.2. You don’t have to disable it to upgrade it. Yeah!
1.5 - 2007-01-02
- Rewrote it to use fewer hooks, and a different method of showing/hiding buttons
- Added settings to allow folks to change the text on Preview/Quick Save/Save buttons, and next to the File Upload button
- I didn’t make the File Upload box itself disappear for two reasons. 1) It would have looked unbalanced, and 2) it was too hard.
- Added link next to URL Title to preview the entry on the live site. This relies on the “search results” base URL for that entry’s weblog
