The Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation of Canada (WPEFC) is devoted to the conservation and stewardship of whitebark and limber pine ecosystems. Over the past decade, they have played a leading role in coordinating projects that promote recovery work, engage public and private partners, support research, and conduct educational programs to further knowledge, expertise, and management of these systems across their Canadian ranges.
Hop Studios migrated WPEFC’s site hosting, assisted with switching their email workspace to Google, transferred their domain and set up a staging site to allow for improved workflow and safer updates to reduce downtime or disruptions.
Services Provided
The Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation of Canada (WPEFC) came to Hop Studios looking for IT support to move their site and email services to a more stable and secure platform. We were happy to help this non-profit strengthen their website security and streamline their internal workflows.
We started by migrating their domain to Namecheap for its robust security features and reliable customer support. Next, we migrated hosting from GoDaddy to FullHost. As a result, WPEFC now benefits from faster local site performance, secure data hosting within Canada and transparent, cost-effective pricing. FullHost’s trustworthy support and built-in backups provide smoother day-to-day operations, making it an ideal choice for our Canadian clients.
We also performed an email migration to Google Workspace—a modern, reliable and secure email solution. Thanks to Google Workspace for Nonprofits, we eliminated WPEFC’s email hosting costs entirely. The platform also provides better control over email management, making it easier to add users and maintain ownership of accounts.
To ensure a smooth transition, we catalogued all existing mailboxes and set up secure, temporary passwords for each user. We imported all existing emails to prevent data loss, then updated the domain settings so new mail would flow directly to Google Workspace. Finally, we provided training to help the team feel confident navigating their new system.
As we look ahead to support WPEFC in optimizing their website, we set up a secure staging site where we can safely test updates, design changes and new features before they go live. Using a staging site minimizes errors, improves performance, and ensures a seamless experience for visitors when updates are published.
With enhanced security and reliable hosting, domain, and email systems in place, the Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation of Canada is well-positioned to continue their vital conservation work.
