Services Provided

In 2020, the Roslyn Landmark Society sought out Hop’s expertise with an ambitious list of upgrades, as well as routine maintenance tasks. Our team was eager to jump on board to help Roslyn in their aim to provide a more user-friendly site, both to their community and the preservation movement at large. Some of the more significant undertakings that Hop Studios tackled with Roslyn’s site included: implementation of user commenting with moderation settings; a hosting migration to Nexcess; and the addition of a filter functionality for their Profiles page.

The filter functionality allows users to filter landmark profiles by category in a style that is consistent with the rest of the site. Users can determine what historical landmarks appear in their search based on which descriptive categories they choose. This not only allows users to see what landmarks are in a given village, but also which landmarks had similar original uses (eg. bank, store, saloon, etc), making for a much more engaging and educational page.

Another feature implemented to increase user engagement was a commenting plug-in. We used the Verbb add-on for Craft CMS, customized for Roslyn’s needs. The add-on now allows users to comment on articles, events, and more, while providing Roslyn the ability to moderate and adjust settings as needed. We must say - we’re pleased with the result!

Over the time we’ve worked with Roslyn we’ve also made several mid-range upgrades to Craft CMS, and added the Blitz plugin to handle static page caching in order to reduce server response time and improve site performance.

We at Hop Studios look forward to continuing our work with the Roslyn Landmark Society and using all of the tools from our technical skillset to support their ongoing historic preservation efforts. When organizations are as passionate about their cause as the Roslyn Landmark Society is, it’s a delight to work alongside them!
