Kukla’s Korner is updated around the clock with the work of their talented bloggers, plus links to the best hockey writing around the internet. They strive to bring you all the breaking hockey news as it happens.

Hop Studios improved the overall functionality of Kuklas Korner’s website by making some major upgrades to its Craft CMS site and various plugins.

Services Provided

Kuklas Korner owner, Paul Kukla, approached Hop Studios in April 2023, needing a significant overhaul of his hockey information website. A community-funded site that is updated 24/7 with the latest hockey news as it happens, this site is constantly being updated in-house, as well as user comments.

The site hadn’t been updated since 2018, and the previous developer had been applying band-aid patches without taking the time to thoroughly maintain it. To add to that, there were lots of issues with their former hosting provider that led to dissatisfaction with its services. With work on the site continuously being delayed and neglected, it was evident that Kuklas Korner needed to change up its defensive strategy—so to speak.

Hop Studios was ready to take the ice and score some goals for Kuklas Korner, or at least improve their site and give it the attention it had been lacking.

Executing the game plan involved some significant changes, starting with a site migration to a different host provider, followed by a Craft CMS upgrade to version 5.1.2. Several other updates included a PHP upgrade and several plugin upgrades such as SEOMatic, FeedMe and Minify.

The blog and comments sections are both critical aspects of the site. Not only do site users contribute their opinions, but the Kuklas Korner team also regularly weighs in. When hyperlinks were being lost and other formatting problems emerged, Hop Studios stepped in to resolve the issues and improved Kuklas Korners’ ability to format blog posts and comments. These improvements were achieved at a critical time - just before the start of a new hockey season!

Hop Studios also enhanced the auto-tweeting on the site. Previously, these tweets were incredibly inconsistent and looked different in every post. We used the SEOmatic plugin to handle the posting to Twitter and allow for better formatting.

By focusing on the fundamentals and sticking to the game plan, Hop Studios helped Kuklas Korner skate to victory. As they say on the ice, “Together, we made it happen!” Hop Studios looks forward to continuing to rally for the win with Kuklas Korner so they can keep bringing the latest and greatest hockey news with a more streamlined and better-functioning site.
