Guide of US offers personalized travel advice and vacation tips for the top attractions, accommodations, and activities in several trendy destinations across the United States. With hand-picked tours, activities, and accommodations for destinations like Hawaii, San Francisco, Napa Valley, and Los Angeles, they help millions of travellers plan the perfect trip each year.

Founded in 2000 by John and Victoria Derrick, a husband-and-wife team who share a passion for adventure and travel. This duo aims to provide travellers with accurate, resourceful, and pertinent information for beloved US destinations.

When they approached Hop Studios in 2020, they wanted to upgrade their sites’ CMS, ExpressionEngine, to the latest version. What started with a single site in 2000 quickly became a family of sites, with an additional travel site dedicated to Hawaii and a gardening tips and advice site. Each site had been running on version 2 of ExpressionEngine, with the most recent being updated three years prior.

As one of ExpressionEngine’s leading experts, we were eager to help John and Victoria upgrade their family of sites to EE6, which would improve site performance and functionality and make updating their sites’ content easier in the back end. After completing the upgrade assessments for each individual site, we were ready to launch. Along with upgrading the CMS to EE6, we also upgraded several plugins and add-ons while removing old and unnecessary ones.

Having John as the in-house tech guy at Guide of US allowed for a more seamless upgrade process for their team, as John could dive into the process with us.
